The Eiteljorg Fellowship for Native American Fine Art is a biennial program honoring five Native American fine artists with unrestricted awards of $20,000. The fellowship program was launched in 1999 by the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. Museum staff implements the program under the direction of Jennifer Complo McNutt, curator of contemporary art.

The Reader rarely reviews foundations' annual reports, but makes exceptions on occasion — in this case for the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry's reaching its 30th year of grantmaking. The handsome 2001 Witter Bynner commemorative report is engaging to read, and presents grant descriptions alongside poems by supported writers, presses, students, and presenting programs.

At the annual GIA conference last fall, a group of twenty or so participants gathered together for a roundtable session devoted to funding individual immigrant and traditional artists. Organized by staff or board members of the Bush Foundation and the Flintridge Foundation, the roundtable session provided one of the first opportunities for foundation program officers engaged in this type of support to share information and to identify common concerns and strategies to meet them. And, indeed, common concerns and themes did emerge in the discussion.
