This summary of proceedings from a November 2001 symposium of the same name during which an interdisciplinary group of experts explored ideas for building communities of the future. The four themes that emerged were the need for educational reform, the importance of collaboration across disciplines, the dangers of uncontrolled technology, and the responsibility of artists as activists.
