Job Notice: Development Associate, Grantmakers in the Arts

Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) is seeking a Development Associate to join its team in The Bronx, NY. This position will report to the Senior Development Manager, and will work collaboratively with other members of the GIA team, including finance and program staff.

GIA seeks a Development Associate. Working under the supervision of the Senior Development Manager, the Development Associate is the first point of interaction with our grantmaker members across the nation. The Development Associate is also responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date donor database records, maintaining membership and funding partner files, supporting timely membership campaigns, member and donor acknowledgements. The Development Associate works on all aspects of member recruitment, retention, engagement and acknowledgement including donor development and board relations.

Desired qualifications and experience are as follows:

  • Comfort with and proficiency with donor-management database software.
    • Proficient with CiviCRM database functions, or equivalent software programs a plus.
  • Systems-oriented and detail-oriented
    • Excellent administrative organizational skills.
  • Commitment to working collaboratively with a range of constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program partners, and participants.
  • Proof of work eligibility and the ability to travel.
  • Combination of education, training, and experience in nonprofit service, and/or membership organizations.
  • Working knowledge of philanthropic and nonprofit arts community, preferred but not necessary.

Responsibilities and duties

Member and donor recruitment and retention

  • In partnership with the Senior Development Manager, develops, implements, and manages member recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Provides oversight of member eligibility
  • Processes membership and funding partner payments

Member services

  • Serve as lead contact with GIA members regarding membership and member benefits.
  • Manage data gathering and export up-to-date, accurate data in order to produce annual member directory in print and online.
  • With Senior Development Manager, coordinate new member reception and mentorships during GIA’s annual conference.
  • Support members’ requests during GIA programming.

Membership and donor database

  • Maintain and update computer database, ensuring database information is accurate and up-to-date at all times.
  • Retrieve and synthesize data and information about the membership and funding partners to assist staff and board in development work.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports for use in tracking progress and identifying membership and development opportunities, as well as reconciliation reports for Finance & Operations.

Other

  • Assist in the development of the conference registration database and follow up on all financial transactions.
  • Facilitate board logistics for convenings as determined by the Senior Development Manager.
  • Other duties as determined by the President & CEO in consultation with the Director of Finance and Operations and Vice President/Program Director.

Grantmakers in the Arts uses a Drupal platform website, CiviCRM database, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365, and QuickBooks. Interest in learning these tools is a requirement for this position.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) non-exempt position with some after-hours, weekend work, and travel required. Compensation: Salary: $50,000-$55,000 dependent on experience. A comprehensive benefits package includes leave time, insurance, and 401(k) plan.
