ARTS IN THE BALANCE: A SURVEY OF ARTS FUNDING IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY 1998 to 2008

In 1998, Southern California Grantmakers a regional membership association of private and public sector philanthropies conducted its first survey of public and private arts funders in Los Angeles County. Ten years and four additional surveys later, this year’s report seeks to provide a meaningful examination of arts funding in L.A. County over the past decade, highlighting the changes and trends that have emerged during this time. In particular, this most recent report assesses the degree to which the arts funding community has been out of balance, whereby both private and public funders have experienced reduced funding levels, and different and uncoordinated funding priorities.
