Series Description

There is no question that individual artists are the DNA of arts organizations and that the vibrancy of the arts sector largely depends on organizations to bring artists together for common goals. At the same time, many artists also — or exclusively — work outside of institutional structures to create and present original work in traditional and contemporary ways. Individual artists often find the opportunities to find support for this work are fewer and more challenging to access.

For over twenty years, GIA members have been working together to address these challenges and promote and improve funding and support to individual artists. This three-part webinar series examines common myths about, and funder approaches to, some of the philosophical questions and technical issues related to supporting individual artists.

This series is designed for leaders and program staff of funding organizations who currently support or are considering support to individual artists, particularly through open application processes. Webinars are free to the staff and board members of GIA member organizations. The fee for nonmembers is $35 per session, or $90 for the series pass.
