Capitalization through a Cultural Equity Lens
Tuesday, October 16, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Organized by Ron Ragin, program officer, performing arts, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation; Tere Romo, program officer, arts, The San Francisco Foundation; San San Wong, senior program officer in the arts, Barr Foundation.
Capitalization principles succinctly call for an organization to have the financial resources and liquidity available to fulfill its mission. As funders committed to social justice and cultural equity, how do we adequately address the capitalization needs of organizations and communities that have been long been under-resourced? This facilitated conversation seeks to outline, clarify, and “name” the challenges of capitalization within small and mid-sized organizations and those rooted in historically underserved communities. Presenters also will provide a format for sharing lessons learned and successful strategies in building healthy, sustainable, community-based organizations.
