Explore Los Angeles
Los Angeles is an exciting location for the GIA 2015 Conference. In addition to all the conference events that will take attendees out into the community, we hope you'll make time to do some exploring of your own. You might try these websites for ideas: DowntownLA.com, Discover Los Angeles, and GIA 2015 Conference Arts Insider that was developed by our LA conference committee members.
Member Spotlight on the California Arts Council
For the month of October, GIA's photo banner features artists and programs supported by the California Arts Council. Established in 1976 by Governor Jerry Brown, the council's mission is to advance California through the arts and creativity. California Arts Council is a Presenting Sponsor for the annual GIA conference happening later this month in Los Angeles.
Artists in Community: Building the Movement
Better Together: From the Desk of Janet Brown
Earlier in my career, I was privileged to work across sectors with passionate and gifted artists. In most instances, the connection with the non-arts organization (hospital, correction facility) was made by my organization. But the creation of the service to be delivered was designed and always implemented by these amazing artists. You might define them as “teaching artists,” as Eric Booth does in his article in the 2015 fall issue of the Reader. These artists, and thousands like them across the country, are a combination of teacher, professional artist, creative problem solver, and community activist. New GIA Members
GIA is pleased to introduce four new members that joined in September, Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Ohio Arts Council, and City of Raleigh Office of Raleigh Arts. Welcome!
