GIA’s February Member Spotlight is Threewalls!
Located in Chicago, Threewalls enters its 20th year this summer, and it's an incredible moment to reflect on who they are as an organization that has been reimagined to be a Black art space that centers ALAANA artists' and creatives' humanities. Instead of following the tradition of looking back, when acknowledging a milestone year, they are reflecting on today and continuing to plant seeds for the future. Some of this includes preparing for the inaugural In-Session fellowship Spring salons that will offer conversations and activations based on the theme "call and response," their citywide public art installation Dreaming of a Future, which commemorates our 20th year and looks to the future, and developing our living wage policy for Threewalls.

Being in Transformational Relationship: Marcus Walton & Eddie Torres in Conversation about GIA’s Racial Equity in Arts Funding Workshop
GIA premiered the Racial Equity in Arts Funding Workshop at the 2017 annual Grantmakers in the Arts conference. Since then, GIA has been developing and hosting workshops for funders in partnership with Race Forward, TrueNorth EDI, and guest practitioners in the field. The workshops have been designed to help participants recognize that cultural funding is a system that has been historically racialized like so many societal systems, and to help guide our approaches to re-designing cultural funding as an anti-racist system.
On this podcast, we are glad to be joined by special guest Marcus Walton, President & CEO, Grantmakers for Effective Organizations who will be in conversation with our very own, Eddie Torres, President & CEO, Grantmakers in the Arts. They will discuss their experiences with the racial equity workshop given their unique roles within the workshop, and what it means to be in a transformational relationship. Listen to the podcast.
The 2023 GIA Racial Equity in Arts Funding workshop will be delivered as 4 three-hour modules with series available in both March and May.

Arts and Tech Keynote at the 2022 GIA Conference
On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, GIA welcomed Hrag Vartanian (Hyperallergic) and Kamal Sinclair (The Music Center) for a conversation on Arts and Tech, with an introduction from Robert Smith III (Surdna Foundation and 2022 planning committee member).

Join us for GIA’s Annual Research on Support for Arts and Culture Part 1
Join us on February 28 at 11am PT (2pm ET) for a presentation from National Assembly of State Arts Agencies’ Nakyung Rhee, Ryan Stubbs, and Mohja Rhoads. They will share a summary of key findings and insights into what these findings reveal about the current public sector arts grantmaking environment, as well as an introduction to what we can expect for the new year.
