Update on GIA Conference
As you may know, Unite Here, the hospitality union that represents workers at the Marriott hotel chain, have voted to go on strike in four cities across the nation (Chicago’s just ended).
This may affect the Oakland Marriott City Center, GIA’s conference hotel. The Marriot and the union are currently in negotiations. In other cities, these strikes have been resolved quickly. However, the Marriott have assured us that they have the workers necessary to execute the GIA annual conference even if a strike does occur. A strike may be avoided, but we want to inform you of this possibility as we do not currently know what resolution will be reached.
GIA respects labor. We also honor our commitments to our members. Therefore, the conference will continue as planned. Click here to read the rest of this message.

AXIS Dance Company at our Conference
On October 24, in our closing plenary, GIA is proud to feature AXIS Dance Company, the acclaimed ensemble of disabled and non-disabled performers, and a keynote by Marc Brew, the company’s artistic director. We’re looking forward to experiencing this company that believes, as they state, in building a bridge between contemporary dance, integrated dance, and disability culture.
