Webinars in July: Arts in Well-being
The next GIA webinar, Arts in Medicine: Supporting Artists Working in Healthcare Settings, will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2:00pm EDT / 11:00am PDT. Join Patricia Lambert from University of Oregon’s arts management program and Jill Sonke, director of University of Florida’s Center for the Arts in Medicine, who will share their experiences working with artists and healthcare professionals to support successful arts-in-medicine programs. Patricia and Jill participated as thought leaders at the Arts in Medicine Funders Forum earlier this year in Orlando, FL, a conversation sparked by GIA’s recent literature review. Janet Brown, GIA’s president and CEO, will moderate this discussion.

GIA Podcast: Captain Sara Kass on Healing Arts in the Military
Continuing the theme of arts in well-being, the latest GIA Podcast features Captain Sara Kass, MD, a military and medical advisor for Creative Forces: NEA’s Military Healing Arts Network. Dr. Kass shares her thoughts on the role of the arts in helping current military members, veterans, and their loved ones heal from emotional and physical injuries resulting from their service.
New from the GIA Reader: Buying Time and Fanning Flames
An article in the latest issue of the GIA Reader, “Buying Time and Fanning Flames,” was written as a follow-up to Grantmakers in the Arts' Funder Forum on Arts in Medicine in February 2017. Bill Cleveland, who facilitated the forum, reflects on the event and offers thoughts on the need for cross-sector collaboration to build infrastructure and program development that will further professionalize the field of arts in medicine.
