Special Webinar: Briefing on President Trump’s 2018 Proposed Federal Budget
Grantmakers in the Arts launched Arts Funders Respond to provide members with the most up-to-date information affecting the arts community in our changing political climate. Now, GIA is pleased to offer a special webinar, Briefing on the President’s Proposed 2018 Budget. The new administration has brought with it a change in budget priorities, including the proposed defunding of important agencies that support arts and culture across the nation. Please join GIA’s federal policy consultant, Alex Nock, Principal, the Penn Hill Group, who will provide a briefing on these matters on Wednesday, June 7 at 2:00pm EDT / 11:00am PDT.
Advocacy Resources to Support the NEA
The president’s full budget plan was released on May 23, and advocacy efforts are underway to support the continued funding of federal agencies and programs like the National Endowment for the Arts. GIA’s Arts Funders Respond website offers advocacy resources and information for public and private funders, including WESTAF’s Advocacy Toolkit for contacting your elected officials, and American’s for the Arts’ breakdown of arts spending in the proposed budget.
Investing in Financial Fitness: Capitalizing for Long-term Health
GIA will host “Investing in Financial Fitness: Capitalizing for Long-term Health” on Tuesday, June 13 at 2:00pm EDT / 11:00am PDT. Since 2010, GIA has led “Conversations on Capitalization and Community” to encourage funders to implement more effective grantmaking practices that support financial stability and success in their grantees and in the arts community. These workshops have stimulated discussions about the kinds of money that organizations need most to manage uncertainty and risk and to pursue opportunities for change. Join Rebecca Thomas, principal and founder of RTA and facilitator of GIA’s capitalization workshops, for a webinar on the fundamentals of investing in your grantees' financial fitness.
Submit Articles, Insights, and Updates to Arts Funders Respond
GIA’s new web resource, Arts Funders Respond, catalogs the work that arts funders are doing to address the needs of the arts community in the current political climate. GIA members are encouraged to send information about current and new programs, policies, and resources they have implemented around this topic. Please email materials to Monica Thomas at monica@giarts.org to be considered for inclusion on the website.
